Don Baker's 1969 Bronco

Don's 1969 Bronco sees a lot of service in the deserts and mountains of Southern California, getting a lot of time in on both high-speed dirt roads and slow-speed rockcrawling. In order to get his Bronco's off-road performance to more closely match his driving style, Don brought the Bronco to WCB for some suspension tuning. We started by removing the existing suspension components and replacing them with WCB's full complement of long travel gear. In the front we installed our +12" (longer than stock) long travel tubular radius arms with massive heim joints to provide awesome travel. To soak up those whoops at high speed we installed 2.5" body King Pre-Runner shocks with reservoirs on custom WCB long travel tubular shock hoops. The WCB shock hoop setup utilizes a unique urethane bushing mount to absorb stresses and keep the frame from cracking at the shock mounts under heavy use. Don's shock system also included a removable cross-motor brace to further strengthen the hoops. To smooth out those hard landings we installed King 2.5" body hydraulic bumpstops with custom mounts and landing pads. To add a little bling, we powdercoated the hoops and arms in metallic Silver Bullet, and re-coated Don's existing coil springs in cool Ice Blue. Out back we installed another pair of 2.5" King Pre-Runner reservvoir shocks as well as another pair of 2.5" hydraulic bumpstops. For maximum performance the bumps needed to come through the floor so we had to make some modifications to the rear seat brackets, but everything fit back together perfectly. With the suspension all together we focused on the steering, where some modofications needed to ba made to Don's existing heim joint tie rod and drag link, and now the truck steers like butter even through the bumps and jumps. While the truck was in the shop we also installed a hydroboost brake system to get everything slowed down in a hurry.
